With a short turnaround after the weekend matches most teams were pushed into testing their squad depths due to a few players carrying knocks from the weekend. While some were able to get results and let their squad depth shine through, others were left in a state of panic after the harsh realisation that their are not ready to compete with the best and worst of all, the transfer window slams shut in a day.
Crystal Palace hosted Brentford on Tuesday night and should feel hard done that the visitors were able to snatch a late 88th minute point, cancelling out Wilfred Zaha’s opening strike. Patric Vieira will be disappointed with the result, but impressed by the way his team bounced back after their defeat at the Etihad.
Brentford will settle for another draw in their quest to fight the notorious second season syndrome and stay up.
A Mitrovic goal and a Lewis Dunk own goal ensured that Fulham took all 3 points against Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion team that got their consolation goal via an Alex Mac Allister penalty in the 60th minute. The match ended 2-1 to Fulham and Brighton suffered their first defeat of the season.
Frank Lampard’s Everton once again saw 3 points slip from their grip as they conceded a 55th minute equaliser after having gone ahead through their youth sensation Anthony Gordon in the 17th minute. The young lad must be wondering what he needs to do to secure victory for his team as they also gave away an equaliser against Brentford after he had put them ahead in match day 4.
Things are not looking good for Frank Lampard as his Everton side has collected only 3 points and still await their first victory of the season after 5 games. Lampard was hired with much fan fare as the man to rescue Everton from their relegation troubles in the middle of last season. He inherited a team in 16th place, just two places above the drop zone and ended the season in 16th, two places above the drop zone. Having had his pre-season with the team and brought on some new faces into the club, one wonders how much longer will the Everton board back their man before the situation becomes untenable?
