City puts pressure on Arsenal

Manchester City made light work of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win to ensure that Arsenal heads into the international break looking over their shoulders. It was an emphatic victory for the Citizens started of by a Jack Grealish opener within the first minute of play, silencing his critics in style after having being the topic of discussion in the build up to this game. That man Erling Halaand broke yet another record with his 10th goal in 6 matches, thus not only being the fastest player in Premier League history to achieve that feat, but he also became the first player to score in 4 consecutive away matches. Victory allowed City to claim top spot over Saturday night before the Gunners were due to play Brentford on Sunday.

Conte's Spurs piled on more misery for Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City as they defeated them 6-2 at the Tottenham stadium. The win for Spurs was even more sweeter thanks to a Hueng Min Son second half hat trick, registering his first goal contributions for what has been an uncharacteristically slow season by his standards. Spurs fans would have been delighted to see the Kane and Son combination back in effect. Defeat for Brendan Rodgers left him speechless in his post match interview, stopping just short of admitting that he might not be around for Leicester's next match, especially after having just been beaten 5-2 by Brighton prior to this demolition at the hands of an average Spurs team that is yet to hit their stride. The clock is ticking and he knows it. Most would suggest replacing Rodgers during this international break, giving the new manager at least two weeks to work with the team, others say that the £10m compensation that Leicester would have to pay Rodgers is the main stumbling block.

In what has to have been the dullest game of football in a very long time, Frank Lampard's Everton got a 1-0 victory over David Moyes' West Ham who seem to be suffering from European nights hang over. The less said about that game the better.

Friday night's action saw Aston Villa claim a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton, while Fulham took all three points against Nottingham in the battle of the newly promoted teams with a 3-2 victory. Both Lampard and Gerrard will breathe a collective sigh of relief heading into the international break after having endured some testing weeks.
